What I do
I teach future school and district leaders in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies department.Professional Biography
I received my BA from Colorado State University, my MA from University of Arizona and my PhD from University of New Mexico. My first teaching job was as a teacher of English as a Second Language at Colegio Regional de Bayamon in Puerto Rico. My next job was teaching literature and composition at Tucson High School in Tucson, AZ. From there I moved to Albuquerque, NM to teach for a few more years before becoming an assistant principal, principal and Director of Professional Development in the Albuquerque Public Schools. In 2000, I became a principal of a middle school in Boulder, CO. I later became the Director of Middle Schools and then the Chief Academic Officer in Boulder Valley School District. After retiring from public education in 2013, I became a Professor of Practice at University of Denver in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies department. Having always worked in or with Title I schools, my research and teaching interests center around transformative leadership for equitable outcomes for all students.
