Professional Biography
Joseph Hutchison, Poet Laureate of Colorado (2014-2019), directs the Professional Creative Writing program for the University of Denver’s University College. He has published 20 poetry volumes, including The World as Is: New & Selected Poems, Marked Men, and the Colorado Poetry Award-winning Bed of Coals. His latest book, Under Sleep’s New Moon, was released in 2021. His poetry, fiction, and essays have appeared in over 100 journals and anthologies, including A Ritual to Read Together: Poems in Conversation with William Stafford, American Poetry Review, Cutthroat, New Poets of the American West, and Poetry (Chicago). He has also translated Ephemeral, a collection of flash fictions by Mexican author Miguel Lupián, and edited or co-edited three anthologies: Legions of the Sun: Poems of the Great War, Malala: Poems for Malala Yousafzai (all profits benefit the Malala Fund for girls' education worldwide), and A Song for Occupations: Poems About the American Way of Work. Joe has lived for the past 30 years in the mountains southwest of Denver with his wife, Iyengar yoga instructor Melody Madonna.
