What I do
I am a Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Denver.Specialization(s)
functional analysis, math education
Professional Biography
I was born in Guatemala and I got my Bachelors in math at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala. I came to the USA to pursue graduate studies. I got my masters and PhD in math at Texas A&M University. I had a post-doc at the Weizmann Institute of Sciences. I had a visiting position at Case Western Reserve University and then I spent several years at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I came to the University of Denver in 2001. My math research interests are non-commutative harmonic analysis, operator algebras, operator spaces, and Banach space theory.
Degree(s)
- Ph.D., Mathematics, Texas A&M University
Research
I have research interest in pure mathematics and in math education. In mathematics my recent work has been centered around non-commutative harmonic analysis, operator algebras, operator spaces, and Banach space theory. In math education I have been involved in several projects that use games and puzzles to teach important math concepts, designing adaptive algorithms, and using technology to design cost effective professional development for teachers.
Key Projects
- Early Math Training
- Access in Matyhematics for All
- Kids Play Math
