Professional Biography

I grew up in the Cleveland area and went to college at Marquette University in Milwaukee, so I have a great affinity for the Midwest and the Great Lakes region in particular. I majored in English and eventually made my way to the Denver area, where I've lived for long enough now that I've been told I'm an honorary native. Initially, I worked for a magazine publishing company and later as a freelance writer when my kids were young. My favorite project as a freelance writer was helping a client write and publish her parents' Holocaust memoirs.

My foray into a higher education career happened when a friend of mine told me about open positions for tutors in the Writing Center at Community College of Denver. After my first week of work, I knew that higher ed was where I belonged, and I've been in this rewarding field ever since. I've worked as a writing tutor, a student success tutor, and an academic advisor in the community college system. I have a great passion for helping students believe in themselves. My greatest strength is forming meaningful relationships with students of all backgrounds so that they feel comfortable, supported, and motivated to take on challenges.

What is one piece of advice you have for students? You are capable of great achievements, and don't let anyone tell you differently!

How do you practice self-care? I love spending downtime with family and friends, exercise (at the gym and outdoors), yoga, meditation, and reading (especially in the evening)
