Summer Elevate
What is Summer Elevate?
Summer Elevate is an initiative designed to help first-year students stay on track for four-year graduation by providing opportunities for credit recovery during the summer before their second year. When students participating in Summer Elevate register for one DU summer course, DU covers the tuition for a second summer course.
How do I join Summer Elevate?
Eligible students will be invited to apply for Summer Elevate during the spring quarter of their first year via email from the Office of Student Success. The simple application process requires students to express their interest in participating. Students selected for Summer Elevate will be notified by mid-April.
What is expected of students in Summer Elevate?
In addition to taking at least two summer courses, students selected for the Summer Elevate program will complete activities that support academic success, planning, and long term degree progress. Students in Summer Elevate are expected to:
Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA through the end of spring quarter.
Meet with their academic advisor before summer quarter begins to determine appropriate summer coursework and review their four year graduation plan.
Register for two DU summer quarter courses that meet their graduation requirements (i.e. not elective courses).
Submit the summer financial aid application.
Register for fall quarter classes during registration week.
Meet twice over the summer with a Student Success Coach. Students enrolled in the Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) during the summer do not have to meet with a coach and can instead count their LEP meetings toward this requirement.
Selected students will be added to a Summer Elevate Canvas course where they can keep track of their progress and connect with staff in the Office of Student Success, who are available to answer questions and help them navigate the program.
What courses are available during the summer?
Courses across the curriculum are offered each summer, with flexible formats including in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online courses. For more information about taking summer courses, check out the Summer with DU webpage or meet with an academic advisor to discuss your options!
