This initiative addresses the critical labor shortage in Colorado's construction industry, where over 30,000 workers are currently needed with projected growth of 30% by 2030. Despite quality training programs like BuildStrong Academy, significant disconnects exist between training completion and successful employment placement. The project aims to identify specific gaps in the training-to-employment pipeline and develop targeted solutions, especially, as they involve underrepresented and underserved communities, through collaboration between workforce development programs and industry partners. Using mixed-methods approach including literature review, stakeholder interviews, graduate placement analysis, and pilot interventions, the research will map pipeline gaps and test innovative solutions.
The project builds on an established partnership between BSA and DU. Expected outcomes include improved job placement rates, higher graduate wages, reduced labor shortages, and a scalable framework applicable to workforce development programs nationwide. This initiative will strengthen Colorado's construction industry while creating more accessible pathways to high-wage careers.
